Court ordered NH DMV to Change Unlawful Practices New Hampshire Legal Assistance, a Non-profit group recently filed a lawsuit which resulted in the DMV voluntarily changing several unlawful practices like requiring non-citizens to do all their licensing business in Concord. The court declared that these practices are unconstitutional. The state cannot treat legal immigrants (legal permanent residents, refugees, or asylees) differently than other NH residents. They must be issued licenses for the same period of time as other residents, they cannot be issued the yellow, paper temporary licenses (because of their immigration status), and their licenses should expire on their birthdays as others do. The only issue that the Court allowed was the practice of requiring all immigrants to go to Concord for their initial license.
