The India Association of New Hampshire held a condolence meeting for those affected by Hurricane Katrina at the Nashua Public Library on September 17th between 1:00 pm to 2PM.

Prithvi Kumar, president of the association, opened the meeting by laying out the agenda and by stressing the association’s deep involvement in public service. He mentioned the association’s recent involvement during the tsunami disaster.

Various association committee members then addressed the gathering with their experiences and views.

Barinder Ahluwahlia, Public Service Committee Chair, shared her personal association with New Orleans, having lived there for nearly seven years. She had an intimate look at this current tragedy in the form of an affected family from New Orleans who are housed with her in New Hampshire.

Umang Kumar, Media Relations Chair, described his weekend trip to Baton Rouge, LA, and the opportunity he had to serve at the Red Cross shelter at the River Center there.

Melanie Kohli, association member, who grew up in Louisiana, pointed out how hurricanes were part of life down there. She solicited donations for essential items as requested by a local Red Cross. A list was available that members could use to make donations of specific, needed items.

Tony Epapharas, member Public Relations Committee, spoke of his experience in serving in the Bangladesh camps and related that to the dislocations in lives caused by such disasters as the tsunami or the current hurricane.

Tej Dhakar, Secretary of the association, expressed his own impressions of this tragedy and thanked the efforts by all the association members.

A question and answer session rounded off the meeting.
