IANH Donates for Governor's Disaster Relief Fund

CONCORD, NH, (June 26, 2006)—The Executive Committee members of the India Association of New Hampshire (IANH) today handed a check for $1,000 to Gov. John Lynch for the Governor's Disaster Relief fund. This amount will go towards helping families right here in New Hampshire who were affected in recent flooding.

“There are many families in New Hampshire who have lost everything in recent floods.  This money will go long way in helping those families” said Governor John Lynch during the presentation of the check by IANH Executive committee members.  The donation was from the Association’s public service fund, which is made up of the proceeds from various community events conducted by the Association throughout the year. In the recent past, the Association has held a Diwali festival to celebrate the Indian festival of lights and a spring festival that saw cultural performances by children of the Indian-American community in New Hampshire.

As part of its public service function, the association makes donations to food banks in Nashua and Manchester, and performs voluntary cooking several times a year at local shelters. The Association has also put on cultural presentations to area senior centers, such as at the Goffstown senior center.
